The three-row midsize SUV category is a popular one, and there are many vehicles in it, but despite that, the Volkswagen Atlas manages to stand out thanks to its practicality, wide range of trim levels, and its two engines.
A very practical SUV
The Volkswagen Atlas is one of the most practical vehicles in its category thanks to its above-average interior space. In addition to offering up to 2,741 liters of cargo space with the rear seats folded, the Atlas has a third row of seats that offers the best legroom and headroom of any three-row mid-size SUV. This makes it easy to carry more luggage and helps keep everyone comfortable on long trips.
Several versions to meet different needs
The Volkswagen Atlas is offered in four versions that allow everyone to find the Atlas that best suits their needs. The entry-level Trendline trim gets a full complement of equipment that includes the digital instrument cluster, heated front seats, blind spot monitoring and Apple CarPlay as well as Android Auto for a price that is among the lowest in the class. Comfortline and Highline versions add various features such as a power tailgate, keyless entry, ventilated front seats, and a Fender audio system. At the top of the range, the Atlas Execline gets 360-degree cameras, an automated parking system, Travel Assist, and 21-inch wheels.
A choice of engines
Unlike most of its competitors, the Volkswagen Atlas offers a choice of two engines that make it possible to prioritize fuel economy or benefit from more power. The standard engine in the Atlas is a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 235 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque. Coupled with the standard 8-speed automatic transmission and 4Motion all-wheel drive, this engine delivers fuel consumption ratings as low as 9.5L/100km on the highway. For more power and refinement, a 3.6L V6 engine can also be specified for all versions of the Atlas except the Execline, where it is standard. This engine develops 276 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque, making it better suited for towing.
