Our First Look at the Refreshed 2025 Volkswagen Jetta

Volkswagen has made some significant changes to its popular compact sedan for the 2025 model year, making the Jetta and Jetta GLI more modern and more technologically advanced than ever. Here is a quick look at what to expect.

A more modern design

The 2025 Volkswagen Jetta receives an extensive mid-cycle refresh, which means that its upgrades are an enhancement of the still popular 2024 model rather than a complete rework. Nevertheless, the front and rear ends of the new Jetta have been significantly altered to seamlessly blend in with the brand’s other recent models, such as the ID.4 and the Atlas. This means new headlamps and a revised lower bumper treatment, along with a full-width rear lightbar and new alloy wheel designs. The Jetta GLI continues to stand out from the regular model with its use of red accents on the front fascia and its more aggressive rear diffuser which features twin exhaust pipes.

Revisions to the interior

The 2025 Volkswagen Jetta and Jetta GLI also benefit from modernizations to the interior, with a new dashboard design that features an 8-inch floating touchscreen. The advanced infotainment system housed in this screen now also includes the controls for the standard Climatronic automatic climate control system, making for a more spacious and uncluttered center console. The 2025 Jetta continues to feature a long list of standard IQ. Drive advanced driver assistance systems, such as Travel Assist, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane keeping assist. Other changes to the interior include new colour schemes for some versions, including a blue and grey combination, a brown and black combination, and a grey, black, and red pairing that is exclusive to the sporty GLI.

The same impressive powertrains

Under the hood, the 2025 Volkswagen Jetta remains unchanged, keeping the same two turbocharged four-cylinder engines that have proven their performance and efficiency. This means that the Jetta is still powered by a 1,5L unit that delivers 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, a recipe known for its very low fuel consumption. The 2025 Jetta GLI benefits from a more powerful 2.0L engine that generates 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. This powertrain can be paired with either a 7-speed dual-clutch or a 6-speed manual transmission. To control its additional performance, the Jetta GLI also features a torque-sensing limited-slip front differential and adaptive damping technology.

The refreshed 2025 Volkswagen Jetta and Jetta GLI are expected to arrive on the market later this year.
