2022 Volkswagen Taos vs 2022 Hyundai Tucson: if you like to drive...

2022 Volkswagen Taos vs 2022 Hyundai Tucson: if you like to drive...

Volkswagen comes to us with a new vehicle this year, the Taos. The comparison with the models of the competition is therefore natural and especially with the Hyundai Tucson, completely revised for 2022.

What's interesting about these two models is that we see different philosophies behind their design. Which is better? That depends on whether you like to drive, because Volkswagen, in that regard, has no equal. But there are other bills to consider, too.

Let's take a look at some of the things that will help the Taos do well against its rival.

Design: are you more attracted to what is classic or controversial? If it's the latter, the Tucson might appeal to you, as its design is anything but traditional. But how will it age? With Volkswagen, you get a stylish SUV that will still look good in 5 or 10 years.

4Motion: The name 4Motion resonates throughout the automotive world. It refers to the Taos' industry-leading all-wheel-drive system; this is what happens when you have Audi as a partner! Hyundai offers four-wheel drive with the Tucson, but the efficiency of the company's system can't compete with the advanced expertise at Volkswagen.

Multimedia system: every vehicle offers a multimedia system, of course, and that's fine at both addresses. Only at Hyundai, the new Tucson interface is fully touch-sensitive. To find a lot of the usual functions, you have to feel your way around the screen, which is not safe when you're on the road. At Volkswagen, yes, there are some touch functions, but the majority of the vehicle's controls are physical buttons. It's more intuitive and safer.

Fuel economy: Comparing the base engines offered by the two vehicles, you realize that you'll be putting a lot of money in your pocket by opting for the Taos. In two-wheel-drive configuration, the average fuel consumption of its 1.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine is 7.6 liters per 100 km. This increases to 8.5 liters with the 4Motion system. At Hyundai, the respective ratings are 8.2 and 9.0 liters with the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder powertrain.

Interior presentation and quality: Finally, two things about the interior. While Hyundai's approach is modern and sleek, it's not pretty. A simple comparison of the design of the dashboards makes us realize that good taste is to be found at Volkswagen. Add to that superior assembly quality, the result of German know-how, and you have an environment where it is better to live.

The 2022 Taos has arrived in dealerships. Don't hesitate to come and discover it to realize how impressive it is.
