The all-new 2022 Taos is right a very exciting new addition to the Volkswagen family. With arrival slated for July 2021, compact crossover buyers will be able to enjoy the best of German engineering in a vehicle that is nimble, urban, and is spacious for its size. Moreover, the Taos includes an incredible number of technologies that aim at keeping you and your family safe throughout your journeys.
One of the best ways to learn about a new model is to compare it against the competition. Here, we line it up against the 2021 Mazda CX-5
The 2022 Volkswagen Taos provides optimal efficiency
The Taos includes a newly designed 1.5-litre turbocharged engine that produces 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, which is impressive for its size. In fact, it has similar torque as the CX-5 base engine.
But the Taos’ advanced engine dynamics and technologies enable it to provide better fuel efficiency all around. Initial estimates state that FWD models will have a consumption rating around 8.4 L/100 km in the city and 6.5 L/100 km on the highway and 9.4 L/100 km in the city with 7.4 L/100 km for AWD grades.
The CX-5 has older and less efficient engines. And with its 2.5-litre naturally aspirated and 2.5-litre turbo engines, the Mazda CX-5 has higher fuel consumption ratings. 2.5-litre FWD CX-5 models rate at 9.7/7.8 (city/highway) and 10.2/8.2 for AWD. The 2.5-litre turbocharged engine goes ever higher, with ratings of 10.8/8.7.
The CX-5 looks much larger, but the Taos has more cargo volume. Overall, owners enjoy 1,877 litres behind the front seats, whereas the Mazda can only provide 1,687 litres.
The 2022 Volkswagen Taos provides a lot of technology
Aside from the advanced engine and versatility, the Taos features some of Volkswagen's most advanced technologies. The Volkswagen Digital Cockpit instrument panel includes customizable displays that make your driving experience even more personalized.
The Taos comes with plenty of safety such as Forward Collision Warning with Autonomous Braking (Front Assist), Active Blind Spot Monitor, Lane Keeping System (Lane Assist), Adaptive Cruise Control, High Beam Control, an Adaptive Front-Lighting System, and Park Distance Control.
