2021 Volkswagen Tiguan vs. 2021 Honda CR-V: Ready for Your Next Adventure

2021 Volkswagen Tiguan vs. 2021 Honda CR-V: Ready for Your Next Adventure

The Tiguan is the right choice when you need an advanced, versatile, and responsive compact SUV. It also features pleasant styling with several models to choose from. The Trendline, Comfortline, UNITED, and Highline include great standard features that Canadian drivers value, such as heated seats, driver assistance technologies, and advanced connectivity.

There are several competitors in the Tiguan's segment. Here, we compare the Tiguan to the Honda CR-V so you understand why the Tiguan is the better value.

The 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan is more responsive and adaptable to road conditions

Under the hood, the Tiguan delivers a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder that produces 184 horsepower and a surprising 221 lb-ft of torque that locks in starting at just 1,600 rpm. The CR-V includes a turbo 1.5-litre four-cylinder that generates 190 horsepower, but downgrades to 179 lb-ft of torque, which is over 40 lb-ft less than the Tiguan. This difference will feel even more obvious in traffic or when getting on the highway.

For the adventurous types, the Volkswagen takes on changing roads and conditions with five selectable drive modes. Snow mode controls rpms so power transfer is less aggressive to reduce or avoid slippage in snowy conditions. On-Road mode offers sub-modes that offer best performance, Eco mode with best efficiency, and Comfort for a smoother ride.

Off-Road mode automatically configures the transmission to help the vehicle attack climbs and descents. Off-Road Custom lets you adjust several components when you need the right dial-in for your adventure. The Honda CR-V does not offer such advanced terrain-adapting technology.

The 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan has a better warranty

Volkswagen proudly backs up the Tiguan with a great warranty. Each Tiguan features a New Vehicle Warranty that covers four years or 80,000 km (whichever comes first). That’s one year and 20,000 km more than what the CR-V offers with their Distributor's Warranty. The Tiguan also offers a seven-year Corrosion Perforation Warranty that lasts two years longer than the CR-V's comparable warranty. And if you need a peace of mind for the road, the Tiguan also features a four-year or 80,000 km Roadside Assistance.

Overall, the Tiguan outpaces its competitor in adaptability, performance, and value. But the Tiguan subjectively looks a lot better, too!
