2021 Volkswagen Jetta vs. 2022 Honda Civic: Easier Access to Value and More Performance

The 2021 Jetta is catching on throughout Canada and beyond, satisfying many owners with outstanding features, capability and MSRP. Volkswagen proves its commitment to the future in a compact sedan that adapts on different roads, adds fun with agility thanks to German Engineering, comforts you in an advanced cockpit, and increases safety so you drive with more confidence.

We are so excited about the Jetta, that we are happy to compare it to the competition. Here, we line it up against the 2022 Honda Civic.

The 2021 Volkswagen Jetta fits the budget

The Jetta comes out of the gate featuring a starting MSRP of $21,595, well below the Civic at $24,465. This saves you plenty of interest or savings. As a matter of fact, each Jetta trim has a lower MSRP than its Civic counterpart.

The Jetta's top (non-GLI) model—the Execline—starts at $28,955, which is well below the top Civic's (Touring) MSRP of over $30,000.

Stacking the value, Volkswagen includes four years of coverage with its primary warranty. The Civic reduces coverage to three years.

The 2021 Volkswagen Jetta bests the Civic under the hood

Most Jetta trims feature a turbocharged 1.4 TSI engine that outputs 147 horsepower and a comparison-leading 184 lb-ft of torque. The Honda Civic offers a standard 2.0-litre four-cylinder that increases horsepower to 158, but torque goes in the opposite direction to 138 lb-ft. This creates a significant performance difference in a variety of situations, from getting around town to going to the country.

If you desire even more performance from the Jetta lineup, the GLI includes a turbo 2.0-litre four-cylinder that asserts itself with 228 horsepower and an impressive 258 lb-ft of torque. The Civic's top powertrain appears in the Touring trim, a 1.5-litre turbo that outputs 180 horsepower.

Despite the performance advantages, the Jetta has the best fuel consumption rating in the comparison, going as low as 5.8 L/100 km (highway). Both vehicles have a combined rating of 6.9 L/100 km. However, the Jetta's advancements make it one of the most efficient in its class.

Inside, the Jetta is also much more comfortable with a more upscale interior filled with technologies.
